The Client’s Challenge
After purchasing a new electric vehicle, the homeowner began looking for a home charging solution that would complement their property rather than detract from it. Functionality was important, but so was appearance — they wanted a premium EV charger that was compact, discreet, and visually in keeping with the home.
With space considerations and design high on the priority list, the client needed guidance on choosing a charger that delivered smart functionality without unnecessary cost or visual impact.
Our Solution
Following an initial consultation, we recommended the Andersen Quartz — a sleek, compact charger that delivers premium design in a simpler, more cost-effective format.
Unlike larger units, the Quartz offers the same refined aesthetic associated with the Andersen range while providing the 7.4 kW charging capacity the client required. As the homeowner already owned a Type 2 charging lead, an untethered model was the ideal choice — a configuration uniquely available within the Quartz range.
This approach ensured the client received a charger that met both their technical requirements and design expectations, without paying for unnecessary features.
Installation & Delivery
Careful planning went into the cable route to ensure the finished installation remained as unobtrusive as possible.
We supplied and installed approximately 24 metres of SWA cable, routing it discreetly beneath the consumer unit cupboard, along the plinth line, and through the wall behind the fridge. Externally, the cable was clipped neatly at low level along the brickwork, running beneath the patio doors and around to the charger position chosen by the client.
To maintain a clean and consistent finish, the SWA and CAT 6 data cabling were run together around the property. All works were completed efficiently and with minimal disruption — including the replacement of the existing consumer unit — and the system was fully tested on the same day.
The Outcome
The homeowner now benefits from a smart, future-ready EV charging solution that combines style with performance.
The Andersen Quartz supports smart tariff integration and scheduled charging, allowing the vehicle to charge during off-peak periods when electricity is cheaper. It is also solar-ready, meaning any future solar PV installation can be used to charge the vehicle using surplus renewable energy.
With app control, Wi-Fi connectivity, and a robust, weather-resistant design, the system offers long-term reliability and ease of use — all backed by Andersen’s extended 7 year warranty.
Client Feedback
The client was particularly pleased with how discreet the cable route was, noting that the low-level installation was barely noticeable. They also commented on the neatness of the cabling around the property and were delighted that the entire project — including the consumer unit upgrade and full testing — was completed within a single day.
