⚠ IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE EV Charger – Supply Only

You have selected to purchase an EV charger without an installation service. Before completing your order, please read and confirm you understand the following important requirements.

1. Professional Installation is a Legal Requirement

Under the Building Regulations 2010 (England & Wales), the installation of an EV charger is notifiable electrical work under Part P. This means:

  • The charger must be installed by a competent person — either a Part P registered electrician (e.g. NAPIT, NICEIC, ELECSA, STROMA registered) or a Local Authority Building Control (LABC) approved inspector.
  • A self-employed or unregistered person must not carry out this work unless they obtain building regulations approval from your Local Authority before works commence.
  • DIY installation by the homeowner or an unqualified person is not permitted and may invalidate your home insurance, your charger warranty, and any OZEV grant.

2. Electrical Certification

On completion of the installation, your installer must provide:

  • An Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) or Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate (MEIWC) — confirming the installation complies with BS 7671 (18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations, latest Amendment).
  • Building Regulations Compliance Certificate (Part P) — issued by the installer’s registered competent person scheme, or by your Local Authority if approved separately.

You should retain these documents permanently. They will be required when selling your property.

3. DNO Notification

Your installer must notify your Distribution Network Operator (DNO) of the installation where required. Specifically:

  • For chargers up to 3.68 kW (16A single phase) — notification is required under Engineering Recommendation G100.
  • For chargers above 3.68 kW — the DNO must be notified in advance. Depending on local grid capacity, connection consent may be required before installation can proceed.
  • Your installer is responsible for checking and complying with your DNO’s current requirements. Failure to do so may result in the DNO requiring the charger to be disconnected.

4. OZEV / LEVI Grant Eligibility

OZEV Grant Notice

If you intend to claim an OZEV Electric Vehicle Chargepoint Grant (EVCG), please note:

The charger must be installed by an OZEV-approved installer.

You must obtain a grant reference number before installation.

Supply-only purchases do not qualify for the grant unless installed by an OZEV-approved installer using the grant process.

SES is an OZEV-approved installer. If you would like us to also install your charger, please return to the previous page and select our Installation option to qualify for the grant.

5. Consumer Unit Compatibility

Your installer must verify before installation that your consumer unit:

  • Has a spare circuit way available.
  • Is a recognised mainstream manufacturer unit.
  • Is compliant with current regulations (metal enclosure required under Amendment 3 of BS 7671 — plastic consumer units in domestic premises must be replaced or encased).
  • Has appropriate RCD protection — Type A RCD is required for most modern EV chargers (not Type AC).
  • Has surge protection (SPD) — recommended and increasingly required under current regulations.
  • The Earth Bonding to both the gas and water and present *where required.

If your consumer unit does not meet these requirements, additional work will be required before the charger can be installed. Your installer should advise you of this before commencing works.

6. Tethered Cable & Smart Charger Requirements

Where applicable, your installer must also ensure:

  • Type 2 charging cable is used (standard for home EV chargers).
  • The charger’s smart functionality (where included) is correctly commissioned and connected to your home Wi-Fi or cellular network, as required under the Electric Vehicles (Smart Charge Points) Regulations 2021. All EV chargepoints supplied after 30 June 2022 must meet smart charging requirements — your installer should confirm compliance.

7. Warranty & Liability

Important — Warranty & Insurance Notice

• Any damage, loss, or injury arising from incorrect installation by a third party.

The manufacturer’s warranty applies from the date of purchase and is subject to the charger being installed and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and all applicable regulations.

8. Your Confirmation

By proceeding with this purchase, you confirm that:

  • You understand a competent, registered electrician must install this charger.
  • You are responsible for ensuring all required notifications (Part P, DNO) are made.
  • You are responsible for ensuring all required certification is obtained.
  • You understand this supply-only purchase does not include an OZEV grant.
  • You accept the warranty and liability terms set out above.
